So there's no local reason for alarm. If you want PFAS reduction anyway, look for a system tested to NSF/ANSI 53 or 58 for PFOA and PFOS; reverse osmosis at the sink is the most common way to get it for drinking water.
What a whole-home filter won't do
- Soften water. Hardness minerals pass straight through carbon, so Fishers homes that want scale control still need a softener.
- Replace upkeep. Carbon is used up over time; a backwashing tank lasts years, cartridges need changing on schedule.
- Stand in for RO. Carbon doesn't lower dissolved minerals much.
